According to the survey of S&P, 76% of Indians do not know even the basic financial concepts. Most people don’t actually learn how to manage money. People make costly financial decisions due to a lack of financial literacy. As we grow and become more financially independent. Our responsibilities also increase.

In 2005, the OECD suggested that students should learn financial education at a young age. Thus, the NCFE conducted the National Financial Literacy Assessment Test (NFLAT), in 2013-14. A total of approximately 1,00,000 students from 2000 schools participated from around the country. It was a first-come-first-serve basis and the winning students and the school were rewarded. The goal of this exam is to encourage students to learn basic financial skills. This will allow them to make effective financial choices throughout their lives. It is a yearly exam for students of classes 6 to 12. The test is completely free.

NFLAT Exam-brief info

There are three types of tests –

  • Junior – Classes 6 to 8
  • Intermediate – Classes 9 and 10
  • Senior – Classes 11 and 12

The test is in English. It is available from Monday to Friday. Students can give tests at any time from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schools with a computer lab and internet access can hold the test on their campus. In addition, if a student has access to a computer or laptop, they can give the exam at home. The student will get one hour to complete the test. It includes questions on different topics such as banking, securities markets, insurance, and pensions.

How to register for NFLAT?

The NFLAT registration and examination processes are both in online mode. Students cannot register themselves. The respective schools have to register both students and schools. Each school is responsible for its own students’ administration. The NCFE team will provide any assistance needed for the test.

Registration process –

  • The school must first register on the NFLAT registration website. To register for NFLAT click here.
  • The school will get a ‘User ID’ and a ‘Password.’ Using them, schools have to upload student details.
  • Schools must enroll their students.
  • They have to select a ‘Date and Time’ from the drop-down menu.
  • Students will get their respective user ID’ and ‘Password.’
  • Students must bring their user id and password to the exam.
  • Carefully read all of the instructions.
